Zac Fujimoto’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth chased starter Scott Squier (0-2), who took the loss after allowing five runs — three earned — on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Fujimoto finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Matt Lowenstein and Colton Plaia each went 3-for-5 for Loyola Marymount (4-5).
Leadoff hitter Kaeo Aliviado had the only two hits for Hawaii (0-9). Quintin Torres-Costa, a 2012 Waiakea graduate, grounded out to shortstop as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Hawaii 70, UC-Santa Barbara 66: Senior point guard Jace Tavita had 17 points and five assists, and senior center Vander Joaquim added 16 points and nine rebounds, including four key free throws down the stretch, at Stan Sheriff Center Thursday as Hawaii improved to 17-11 overall and 10-6 in the Big West Conference.
Joaquim hit two shots from the charity stripe with 8 seconds left to give UH a 68-65 lead, and another pair of free throws with 3 seconds remaining capped the scoring.
Hauns Brereton added 14 points, and Isaac Fotu had 12 for the Warriors.
Kyle Boswell led the Gauchos (8-19, 4-11) with a game-high 27 points, going 5-for-8 from behind the 3-point arc and 10-for-12 from the free throw line.

The Warriors are is 4-5 in those matches. … Hawaii’s eight MPSF losses have come at the hands of the nation’s top six teams in the AVCA top 15 coaches poll.

In a nutshell: The 20th-ranked Rainbow Wahine will host the Bank of Hawaii Invitational this weekend, playing five games over three days. Today, Hawaii will open with Western Kentucky (5-3), a Sun Belt Conference. The teams have only met once, with UH beating the Hilltoppers 6-2 in Las Vegas five years ago. Hawaii comes off Wednesday’s 5-1 win over Memphis — a team it will face Saturday — in which Leisha Liilii and Kayla Warnter homered. The Rainbow Wahine have hit 15 home runs in their past seven games.

Junior Vicky Tagalicod, a Hilo High graduate, scored 10 points in the game. … UH comes off a 47-43 loss at Cal Poly on Feb. 23 in which the Rainbow Wahine erased a 13-point halftime deficit before falling short. Junior forward Kamilah Martin (15.1 points per game) became the second women’s basketball player to amass 900 rebounds.
